Eggs!

On Sunday Miss Fluffy laid her first egg. She's been laying one at mid day since. Josh followed her into the coop today and got to watch her drop it!

The first pic is Isaac finding the first egg. The second is Isaac making a nest for the poor chickens who have to lay eggs in the poop. The third pic is josh explaining the fluffing of feathers that preceded the laying of egg #4.

Blueberries

The kids got down to business picking blueberries today. I was impressed with their diligence. Caleb teased us all by showing us his full ice cream pail. After a while he revealed the upside down cool whip container that was displacing the berries, making his pail look full! What a stinker.

Beans

We had a long day of activity. It started with picking beans (of which I was primary laborer, despite the photos) and ended with ending the beans. The kids all pitched in there. The beans will sit until Monday to be canned.

Paint the shed

Caleb has the assignment to paint the shed. Quick progress is not the name of the game. It's giving Caleb something to focus on. Of course it looks interesting to lyd and Isaac, and they occasionally have to play, too. Next we move from primer to paint.

Swim at home

Although the pool is right around the corner, sometimes it's nice to stay home. The kids blew up the pool I got several years ago and never took out of the box and took turns alternately blowing it up and massaging the shoulders of the one in front of them.

Caleb rigged up a plan to slide and leap over the edge into the pool. They all got along well. Of course they came in for dish soap to lube the slip n slide. We have been running in and away from home so much that I welcomed the chance to be getting things done here while watching them from the kitchen window.

Reservoir

The kids can't stop talking about their experience at the Reservoir. Tom Murphy invited us to use his boats and hit the water. Lydia has declared that we ought to go once a month to practice our boating.

It was a lovely few hours, and relatively peaceful. I think we will try it again.

Lunch

The kids love the treat of going to the park for school lunch weekdays. To the point of disappointment when we miss it. Maybe it's the bag if chips that they never get at home... the chocolate milk?

The playground has felt different this year. I thought originally it was because we were scheduled for the last swimming lesson before free swim and friends had already gone home. But occasionally we made it earlier, and it just didn't feel as packed with families as usual.
