Colloseo snails

I followed Elisa up the stairs from the coliseum and heard her crunch over something. I looked down and saw snails all over! While touring the coliseum the next day I picked up an empty shell to take home.

Rome apartment

I'm sure someone else has pics of this cute little apartment. We were happy there. We were all very tired during our time there. A good place to crash.

Twilight walk thru Rome

We liked this statue of a pope. It looks like he is welcoming us all in.

This hotel looked lovely with the lighting design that highlighted the structure.

Jonny and Caleb made wishes in the fountain. It was hard for Caleb to decide, but they both wished to return to Italy someday.

This lit church was the one we entered our first day, Santa Maria Maggiore.

Leaving the Vatican

We had dinner after the Vatican and gobbled up the first free wifi we found in Rome. Here we were, rude Americans, all sitting around the table on our phones.

Sarah pretends to push over the row of bikes. We excitedly photograph a fire truck going by. That's the kind of thing Sarah and I watch for on behalf of our small boys who are not with us right now.

There are motorcycles and tiny cars all over in Rome. We had been talking about how amazing it is that they all know how to travel together and never wreck. On the way to St Peter's Square we witnessed an accident. The car and motorcycle were both going very slowly at the intersection, but three men went over to lift the bike off the rider. All seemed well.

Vatican

Between Caleb and I in the background is a Swiss guard, wearing the uniform that has been worn for centuries. Well, not the exact same one.

This is Saint Peter's Square (San Pietro)

Bascilica di San Pietro

St. Peter Bascilica. We climbed to the cupola, 520 stairs, spiral ones! I had to pace myself.

We took a few pics on the way up. The mosaics decorating the dome were amazing! And we were standing right in the cupola with them! I took these very up close pics!
