A sculpture of grapes welcomes us to Vicenza. It is typical to have a small vineyard in every home garden.
Elisa's friend, the traffic circle. When we are unsure of directions we can go around and around until we know!
The roll booth. Our van was too high for the car toll machine, but too low for the truck one.

Monday morning
We had planned to hike through 52 tunnels created during WW1 on Monday. We drove that way, but stopped at a gas station because we needed a more detailed map. It's a good thing we stopped when we did so we didn't waste any more time in that direction. We were informed that those mountain roads were closed due to an avalanche. Notice the snow capped mountains in one of the driving pictures.
We were so bummed to have missed that adventure! But better to get stuck in the city during an avalanche instead of on the mountain!

To Vicenza
Driving always give us lots of things to see, although it is hard to capture it on camera.
We parked at the apartment and walked, looking in each restaurant to find something more than a snack bar, sandwiches and treats. Finally found a nice little restaurant, much like one we would find at home. And they had pasta!
The meal was offered in courses. First, we had pasta. The second course was a meat and French fries! Crazy. Everyone enjoyed the fruit juices. Caleb had a seafood medley pasta. It will be nice to supplement our grocery store lunch tomorrow with our leftovers. We are getting a little tired of salami sandwiches.
Oh- the table across from us had a pizza with tomato sauce and French fries on it! How crazy is that!

Goodbye to the Pordenone apartment
Our favorite apartment.
Lovely grocery store breakfast of yogurt and chocolate granola.
Nifty drying rack up in the cabinet.
After church we went back for a relaxing lunch and then headed toward Vicenza.

Church
Not only are there basketball hoops at church- soccer goals!
We were comfortable at church at the military ward. Felt just like home. Grandma shared her thoughts about The Lord leading them to a small town in Italy for them to find the gospel. This is her promised land.
At the beginning of the trip Elisa reminded the boys that what gets left behind is gone forever. Caleb left his water bottle at church.

Hot cocoa
Drove up the mountain from Dardago and stopped at a lovely mountain chalet, Bornass Albergo-Ristorante. Had the most wonderful hot chocolate. It was frothed in a machine, poured out and then a flavored disc of chocolate placed on the top to melt. Oh, how delicious and rich. We drank it on the balcony overlooking the expanse of Pordenone and Aviano. Sarah bought a postcard of the place, a photograph from 1974- perfect to represent Mom's time in Aviano- even though she says they didn't really go up the mountain.
Pordenone
Once we found our beautiful Pordenone apartment we took a walk. We picked up a few groceries to hold us over for a couple meals. The apartment was in a different area of the city than we anticipated so we didn't do any sightseeing. Well, our eyes are always open for new sights, of course.
Like a visit to a market!

Saturday night Aviano
We walked around the square and took more pictures. I liked the walk in Dardago better. We decided to drive back to Pordenone to eat.
